Sometimes (oftentimes if it comes to me personally :)) we haste, run through our lives without noticing anything, without seeing the beauty of this world, with seasons rushing past like calendar pages. And then we’re 30, 40, 50,… [insert the correct number], and we suddenly realize that we didn’t really enjoy what we did, and we didn’t really know where we ran. To spend precious moments with your significant others – while they’re still around. To enjoy sex – while both of you still can have it. To kiss your children – while they’re still living with you.
Just stop, take a deep breath, and look around. You will be surprised at how many wonderful things there are around you, which you simply didn’t see in your haste. Remember, when you were a child, how immensely you have enjoyed every little thing? Warm sunshine on your face. Cool paddle splashes on your feet. Soft grainy sand in your hand. Do you think this joy has gone forever? I don’t think so. The ways to de-haste yourself:
1. Allow at least half hour every day to have dinner together with your family. You don’t have to be a great cook, there are many foods which you can just heat up – frozen veggies and shrimps, canned soup, and so on. Just add some spices, your favorite sauce – and enjoy. The main thing here is for all of you to sit together at one table, talking or watching a movie you all like.
2. Set up some time before you go to bed (it can really be like 20-30 minutes) to sit quietly, enjoy your favorite drink and read your favorite book / play your computer game.
3. Turn on your favorite music (use headphones if you’re at work and your boss isn’t a meloman :)), come to the window and spend a few minutes just enjoying the landscape, looking at people and cars (ships in my case :)), thinking about nothing, just absorbing the beautiful view. If the view is very far from being considered beautiful, go out and find a favorite spot. Or stop your car / get off your bus in an unusual place. Your purpose here is to find a peace of mind.
There are many other things you can do, such as meditations, exercise, going to museums, etc. But start with the simple ones. Just to feel alive and young again. They won’t cost you almost anything. But they can bring the joy of life back to you.
Let me know what ways you have found, I’d love to hear from you.
Throughout this post you can see picture of a present I made for Ken for this year’s Valentine’s Day. It is Victorian Love wall clock and calendar. Maybe later I will do a tutorial on this gears and roses. But right now I’m going to have a nice meal with Ken, watch a nice movie, – and just relax. Hope you’ll follow my example :).
Till next time! 🙂
